Kennedy passed away, a day after being shot by Sirhan Sirhan, when leaving the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Kennedy had just given a victory speech for winning California\u2019s Presidential Primary election.<\/p>\n<p>Before the primary election, Kennedy had been traveling around the country campaigning. On May 28, 1968, he stopped in Ventura County. When in the county, he made a campaign stop in the <strong><em>La Colonia<\/em><\/strong> neighborhood of Oxnard.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy was greeted by the local Chicana\/o working-class community. My father, <a href=\"http:\/\/artbylouiemoreno.com\">Louie Moreno<\/a>\u00a0had the opportunity to shake his hand before he entered the <em><strong>Christ of Kings Church<\/strong><\/em> on Cooper Road.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 506px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"Untitled by sinfronteras, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/sinfronteras\/8274659469\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8218\/8274659469_d8cf795ceb.jpg?resize=496%2C500\" alt=\"Untitled\" width=\"496\" height=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: The Press-Courier, 28 May 1968<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Just like his brother, Robert F. Kennedy had a strong connection to the Chicana\/o working-class community.
